Welcome to Burford rehoming centre based in Burford, Oxfordshire.
We opened in 1990 and have facilities for 25 dogs, 21 cats, 14 rabbits and other small pets. We also have paddocks and stables to care for up to 60 horses.
Our centre helps to support people and pets across Oxfordshire and beyond. We’re dedicated to finding the right pet for you – and finding the right home for the pets and horses in our care. But we’re also here through any challenges you might be having.
Visiting us
We welcome visitors to our centre, but to keep stress to a minimum for the pets and horses here, you won’t be able to see them face to face without an appointment from our team or a tour booking. We hope you understand, and we’re very happy to discuss any questions you may have about your pet or adoption.

The tour lasts around two hours. We welcome questions about adopting pets or horses, but all adoption applications will need be submitted through our website. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Adopting a pet
If you’re interested in adopting a pet or horse from us, please visit our find a pet page and complete the form linked from the pet’s profile. Our pages are updated regularly, so please keep checking back to view more pets in need of a home.
Giving up a pet or horse
We understand that no one takes the decision to give up a member of the family lightly. Speak to our team by email or call to discuss the right decision for you and your family.
To help smooth the transition, our team may be able to rehome your pet directly from you, without them having to stay in kennels, catteries or stables. Find out more about our Home Direct scheme.
If you need to give up a pet urgently, please speak to one of our team. Leaving an animal outside our site unattended, especially when we’re closed, could put them at risk.
Pet food bank
Anyone struggling to feed their pets can visit one of our partner food banks to collect the pet food you need.
We’ve partnered with Oxford Mutual Aid. You may need a referral from a frontline professional, Citizens Advice, or a voucher to use our partners’ food banks. Blue Cross is unable to provide a referral.

Donate pet food
No one should have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their pet. Help us keep pets and people together by donating today.
- Wet or dry pet food in unopened tins, pouches or packets, including special diets eg senior, puppy, kitten
- Hay, straw and substrate for rabbits, guinea pigs and other small pets
- Litter
- Bedding (we don’t accept duvets)
We are so grateful for your generous donations. To help our teams, please donate pet food during our opening hours as it can attract wildlife if left outside our centre.
Sorry, but we’re unable to accept donations of the following:
- Dry pet food that’s over three months past its best before date
- Wet pet food that’s over three years past its best before date
- Open packets of food or litter where the contents have been exposed to the air. Open boxes containing individual pouches or tins are accepted as long as the pouches or tins are unopened.
- Food with damaged packaging, including dented tins, holes in sacks, grease spots on bags
- Raw food
- Food for humans
- Food or items for horses
Last year we helped 2,069 pets at our centre.
