Merton animal hospital

Location Details

Our Merton animal hospital was opened in 1999 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

We provide lifesaving veterinary treatment to thousands of pets every year and support pet owners across London who can’t afford private practice prices.

Booking an appointment

If your pet is sick or injured, give us a call or book an appointment via PetsApp. Your pet will need to be registered before booking an appointment. You’ll also need to pay a consultation fee when you book.

Out of hours

If you are not registered at a Blue Cross animal hospital, please call your usual vet practice before contacting us.

If your pet needs to be seen urgently, please call 0300 777 1890 and hold until the message has finished to speak to one of the team. A consultation fee will apply if your pet needs to come to a hospital.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

You can register all your pets with us, so long as they live with you.

During your consultation we’ll discuss treatment options for your pet and estimated costs. We’ll expect you to pay at the time of treatment. This helps cover our costs and ensures we can keep providing vet care for pets in need for many years to come.

Find out more about what to expect.

We have worked hard to keep our prices fair and as affordable as possible. We continue to heavily discount the cost of treatment for your pet.

Pet food bank

Anyone struggling to feed their pets can visit one of our partner pet food banks for help and support.

We’ve partnered with Roehampton Community Box and Wimbledon food bank. You may need a referral from a frontline professional, Citizens Advice, or a voucher to use our partners’ food banks. Blue Cross is unable to provide a referral.

Get in touch with the food bank directly for the types of pet food available.

Donate pet food

No one should have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their pet. Help us keep pets and people together by donating today.

  • Wet or dry pet food in unopened tins, pouches or packets, including special diets eg senior, puppy, kitten
  • Hay, straw and substrate for rabbits, guinea pigs and other small pets
  • Litter
  • Bedding (we don’t accept duvets)

We are so grateful for your generous donations. To help our teams, please donate pet food during our opening hours as it can attract wildlife if left outside our hospital.

Sorry, but we’re unable to accept donations of the following:

  • Dry pet food that’s over three months past its best before date
  • Wet pet food that’s over three years past its best before date
  • Open packets of food or litter where the contents have been exposed to the air. Open boxes containing individual pouches or tins are accepted as long as the pouches or tins are unopened.
  • Food with damaged packaging, including dented tins, holes in sacks, grease spots on bags
  • Raw food
  • Food for humans
  • Food or items for horses
