Making a difference for life: Leaving a legacy with Blue Cross

Posted on 22 Feb 2011

When Judith Pearce saw what a difference adopting a dog from Blue Cross had made to her brother and his family, she decided to help make sure we’re there for many more animals – and people – in the future…

Judith didn’t think her brother would ever get another pet so she was surprised when he told her he’d rehomed a rescue dog from Blue Cross.

But as soon as she met Staffordshire bull terrier Tia, she could see why he had been so smitten. She says: “She just came in, lay down and waited for her belly to be rubbed. She’s such an affectionate and friendly dog.”

After meeting Tia and seeing how well her brother had bonded with his new pet, she felt inspired to leave a gift for Blue Cross in her Will.

She says: “My brother and his wife had a cat many years ago and when he died they were so heartbroken I didn’t think they would own a pet again. But last year he rang me and said ‘we’ve got a new addition to the family’.

“He was over the moon with Tia and I could see why when I met her. I was very touched by the obvious bond between the two of them and I really believe that Tia has turned my brother’s world around.”

Judith adds: “He was coming up to retirement and he’d worked so hard for so many years I was worried about what he’d do when he stopped. It was the perfect timing for him to adopt a dog and Tia has been wonderful for him.”

By leaving us a legacy, Judith has helped to ensure we can help more pets in the years to come. She says: “I worked as a legal secretary for many years so I know how important it is to make a Will.

“I’d wanted to change mine for a while and it seemed like everything came together at the right time. I think Blue Cross does wonderful work and I’m happy to support this worthwhile charity.

“I’m surprised that so many people don’t make a Will. You really must make sure if you have something left after you’re gone that it goes where you want it to go.”

Blue Cross receives no government funding and relies on the generosity of the public to fund our work. More than half our income comes from legacies. Find out more about leaving a legacy to Blue Cross.
