Veterinary services

Our veterinary services are available to pets whose owners are on certain means-tested benefits or low incomes. Blue Cross is not government or local authority funded, but relies on money raised through donations, legacies and other fundraising activities. We therefore ask that clients give a contribution towards the cost of their animals' treatment, vaccination or microchipping.

Does your pet qualify for treatment?

To find out if you qualify for Blue Cross veterinary care through our hospitals, veterinary welfare clinics, and mobile clinics, contact your nearest hospital. Each hospital has a catchment area. View these catchment areas on our Victoria, Merton, Hammersmith and Grimsby pages.

Animal hospitals

We have four animal hospitals, three in London – Victoria, Hammersmith and Merton – and one in Grimsby.  They treat thousands of animals every year, from routine appointments to complex surgery.

We employ more than 100 staff at our hospitals, which are equipped to a high standard. We are committed to making sure that every animal receives the best possible care.

Mobile clinics

We have a mobile clinic that travels to four different locations in London. They offer basic veterinary attention, vaccinations, microchipping and advice on animal care. The clinics are open from 10.00am – 12.00pm and from 1.30pm – 3.30pm on the following days:

  • Bethnal Green Road Market on Mondays
  • Hackney Town Hall car park on Wednesdays
  • Islington Green on Thursdays
  • Walthamstow Town Square on Fridays

We work on a first come first served basis, please arrive early.

Clients that use the mobile clinic are expected to be able to get to Victoria Hospital during mobile clinic 'out of hours' for their emergency service.

Please be aware that our mobile clinic will not be operating from May 18 until May 28 2012 due to essential maintenance. For emergencies, or if you have any questions, please contact our Victoria animal hospital on 0300 777 1890.

Veterinary welfare clinics

Some of our adoption centres have veterinary welfare clinics for people on low incomes who don’t live in London. They are at: Felixstowe, Bromsgrove, Tiverton and Southampton.

Ambulance services

Blue Cross also has a fleet of animal ambulances to transport animals owned by people who cannot otherwise bring their pet to and from the London hospitals themselves because they are elderly or have a disability. These operate Monday to Friday 9 am -   5pm.

In the London area our ambulances cover the following postcodes:

  • SW 1, 2, 4, 8, 9, 11, 12, 16,17, 18, 19
  • CR 4
  • SM 4
  • SE 1, 5, 11, 15, 16, 17,21, 22, 24 & 27

Emergency care

We have an out of hours service for emergency cases only. Clients are asked to ring first so we can assess if their pet needs to be treated straight away.
