‘Volunteering at Blue Cross is a great way to spend time with the family’
21 Jun 2012Helping unwanted and abandoned pets is a family affair for animal heroes Tracey, Peter and their daughter Charlotte Harper.
The Harpers volunteer at our Thirsk rehoming centre, spending time with the cats and dogs waiting for new homes and giving them love and attention.
They started volunteering with us in 2009 and they’ve since added Blue Cross rescue dog Charlie to their happy family.
Tracey says: “We’ve always loved animals and cared about pet welfare and we’re a very outdoorsy family, so volunteering at Blue Cross seemed like the perfect way to spend some of our free time.
“It’s really nice to give something back and, not only are we helping the animals but we really get a lot out of it ourselves.”
The Harpers spend quality time with the pets at the centre, walking the dogs and socialising the cats.
They also help out at our fundraising events, doing things like manning stalls, lending a hand at the dog show and putting tickets on tombola prizes.
Tracey adds: “We really feel part of the team – the staff are so friendly and everybody’s always smiling. It’s a lovely atmosphere there.
“All of us find it so rewarding and it’s a great thing to do as a family.”
We rely on our amazing volunteers to help us run our services. If you have some free time, please see our current volunteer opportunities page.
