Blue Cross fundraiser Christine Day’s knitting challenge goes global26 Mar 2012
Dogs across the globe are now sporting a range of stylish jumpers and helping homeless pets at Blue Cross at the same time thanks to animal hero Christine Day.
Christine, from Devon, set herself a fundraising challenge of raising £100 for Blue Cross in 2012 by knitting jumpers for dogs in return for a suggested £5 donation.
But she didn’t realise just how popular her creations would be and she’s already beaten her target. She’s even sent jumpers as far away as Canada and Sweden.
She says: “I’ve done lots of knitting in the past but this is the first time I’ve knitted for pets. I really wasn’t expecting such a huge response, but I’ve been knitting almost constantly ever since!”
Christine adds: “I’ve had my Jack Russell terrier, JD, since he was a tiny puppy and I wouldn’t be without him, so I’m really happy to be supporting a charity like Blue Cross that does so much for pets.”
Christine was inspired to fundraise for Blue Cross after the company she works for, Kaba Ltd, nominated us as their charity of the year.
She’s now busy knitting most evenings to keep up with all her orders. Jumpers can take anything from three hours for a tiny jumper for a Chihuahua puppy to three evenings for a bigger doggie sweater.
