Helen's life-changing experience as a volunteer
19 Dec 2011For Helen Gladding, volunteering at The Blue Cross Grimsby animal hospital has been a life-changing experience.
A few years ago, Helen’s world was turned upside down when she suffered a stroke. She faced an enormous challenge as she had to relearn how to do everything she had once taken for granted - even reading and writing.
While on the path to recovery, Helen decided to start volunteering at the hospital to help her beat exhaustion and frustration.
Helen says: “I help in the packing department, cleaning, sorting and labelling the surgical equipment.”
“The hospital is a very friendly place and everyone makes me feel welcome. I go once a week and I love it. It has really helped me because it’s given me a boost to my confidence.”
Volunteers like Helen make it possible for The Blue Cross to carry out our vital work for animals in need. Find out how you can get involved.
