Blue Cross warning after cat gets leg stuck in collar
30 Dec 2011The Blue Cross is reminding owners to make sure their pet is wearing a collar with a safety release catch after saving a cat who nearly died.
Last month we told you about Princess who got her leg stuck through her collar and was badly wounded.
But she’s not the only cat we’ve seen this year that has fallen victim to their own collar.
Mags was found in a field with her right leg stuck through her elasticated collar. She was weak, anaemic and weighed less than 2kg.
The collar had caused a large and deep armpit wound which was badly infected.
Animal welfare assistant at our Thirsk adoption centre, Amy Younger, says: “Mags was found just in time, if left any longer she would not have survived.”
After receiving treatment for one month the wound healed and, as no owner came forward to claim Mags and she wasn’t microchipped, she has since been rehomed.
