Homeless puppies give a paws up for new puppy unit

We’ve welcomed the very first litter of puppies to be born and raised in our new puppy and birthing unit at Blue Cross in Bromsgrove into the world.

The litter of five were born at the centre to two-year-old Minnie who was found as a stray. Her pups are now six-weeks-old and happily all reserved to leave the centre in a fortnight to start their new lives.

The terrier cross puppies - Diddly, Squidly, Wiggly, Tiggly and Beau  - are in the specially designed mum and pup area which is next to the centre’s team room. Large sliding windows between the two rooms means the pups can get used to the many sounds and smells of everyday life, as well as enjoy lots of cuddles during staff break times.

The puppy unit forms part of the £1.8million rebuild of the centre which aims to be fully completed by the autumn. Before the unit was built, the centre had to transfer pregnant bitches to other Blue Cross centres or other local rescue charities for their care.

Neil Edwards, Centre Manager at Bromsgrove said: “It is great that we now have a proper space for pregnant mums and their litters. These puppies have been doing really well and we look forward to seeing them in homes of their own soon.

"We are grateful for all the donations we have had so far towards the rebuild of the centre. We wouldn’t be able to help as many pets as we do without support from local animal lovers”.
