The Victoria hospital of The Blue Cross was honoured to receive a visit from Dame Suzi Leather on 4 September. Dame Suzi is the Chair at the Charity Commission and had requested to come see our work at Victoria. She was welcomed by our chairman, Di Sinclair and our chief executive, Kim Hamilton, before being taken on a tour around the hospital by chief veterinary surgeon and head of hospitals administration, Jess Gower and Steve Broomfield respectively. Following the hospital tour, Dame Suzi was introduced to the press office and website and publications teams. Blue Cross deputy chief executive, John Ewbank, who briefed Dame Suzi on the charity's history, mission and organisation during the visit, commented "We were delighted that Dame Suzi, as Chair of the Charity Commission, was able to find the time to visit the Victoria Animal Hospital and our London communications office. It was clear that she was really impressed with the hopital's wonderful facilities and by the fantastic work that all of our staff are doing to address the suffering of animals whose owners can't afford the increasing costs of private veterinary care. She managed to meet many of our members of staff and it was obvious not only that she has a real passion for animal welfare but also that she is hugely supportive of everyone who contributes to the work of The Blue Cross. We hope that at some point in the future she'll also be able to visit one of our Animal Adoption Centres, so that we can show her some of the other aspects of our work as Britain's Pet Charity." 5 September 2008 |
