The Society for the Welfare of Horses and Ponies (SWHP), near Monmouth, is the most proactive, dedicated equine welfare charity in Wales. It provides round the clock on-call rescue for horses and ponies in desperate need. In particular, SWHP Horse Hospital provides a life-line for injured, neglected and abandoned horses and ponies.  SWHP cares for up to 35 horses at anyone time and currently has some 180 horses and ponies in private homes on a monitored loan basis.
