Holly

Pretty Holly, a 14hh Connemara X mare was signed over to the Blue Cross in Burford back in September 2002. Her owner was unable to manage her nervous behaviour (she was especially nervous around men and with the farrier) and wanted to make sure that she received the best possible training and care for the future.

After settling in, Holly had one groom assigned to her for all her training. This entailed lots of groundwork and getting her used to things she would encounter everyday. Holly has since been re-homed to Lizzie May from Hertfordshire. Together they do lots of hacking, jumping and Sponsored Rides.  She has even helped Lizzie’s family to learn to ride including her much younger brother.

Holly and Lizzie are pictured here competing at the Burford Annual Summer Horse Show in July 2004.

Mary & Bridget
Bridget and Mary have recently been re-homed to Christine and David Elsom from Devon. Their own horse had lost his companion so when they visited the Burford Centre to find a new friend they couldn’t choose between Bridget and Mary so decided to take them both on loan. Both horses have settled in well with their new companion and are all very happy together.

Bridget (The bay on the right) came to us from the charity ‘HorseWorld’ She was a stray and due to her poor conformation and back problems she is now unable to be ridden.

Mary (The black on the left) came into the centre with six other Horses and Ponies as part of a legacy and due to her age is now not ridden and is enjoying her retirement.
