Help and advice by telephone

Call 0800 096 6606 (UK only) to speak to a telephone befriender. The helpline is open daily 8:30am-8.30pm with an answerphone available outside these hours. All calls are free and confidential.

Telephone befrienders are volunteers of all ages and backgrounds who have completed a supervised training course. They offer a listening ear and give time, patience and encouragement to bereaved pet owners as they work through their loss.

Help and advice by email

It is not always easy to talk about the loss of a much-loved pet, so you may prefer to write down how you are feeling. We can also offer you support via email and, as with our phone service, we will listen in confidence and without judgement. Email pbssmail@bluecross.org.uk and your email will be directed to an email befriender, who replies to you directly. All email befrienders use a first name followed by the PBSS email address (for example jo@pbss.org.uk), and this is what will appear on your email system.

We will try to get back to you as soon as possible, within a maximum of 48 hours. If however, you want to contact someone immediately, please use the phone helpline.
