Taking in unwanted pets

If you wish to adopt an animal from a Blue Cross centre, here's how:

  • Visit your local Blue Cross adoption centre (use the drop-down menu at the top left to find out which is closest to you).
  • You will be asked to complete two questionnaires that will help our staff to match you to an animal requiring a home. If a suitable match is not found immediately, you can visit again until you find your ideal pet.
  • Once an animal has been selected and reserved, we may arrange to visit your home, meet all members of your household and provide more information about the animal. Alternatively, we may request that all members of the household come to the adoption centre instead.
  • If we feel you and the animal are the right match, the adoption will then go ahead.
  • Before taking the animal, you are asked to sign an agreement outlining your responsibilities for its care and asking you to return it to The Blue Cross if you can longer keep it.

Read The ten stages of rehoming, which explains the journey a pet takes through being admitted to rehoming.

The process of preparing an animal for rehoming carries associated costs – therefore we do ask for a donation (see services and costs).
