The Blue Cross lends a paw for the Royal Parks Half Marathon Thanks to everyone for supporting The Blue Cross on Sunday 12 October 2008 Thousands of runners took part in the first Royal Parks Foundation half marathon through central London on Sunday 12 October. More than 120 of the runners sprinted, galloped and hopped their way to the finish line in aid of The Blue Cross. The money raised through sponsorship will help to fund the work carried out at Blue Cross animal hospitals and mobile clinics in London and rehoming centres nationwide, helping thousands of homeless animals each year. The day was enjoyed by all. Garden historian Twigs Way has been training hard for the race over the past few months. She said: "Over the years I have adopted many animals from The Blue Cross, some of whom had suffered dreadful injuries or mistreatment before being abandoned. The charity's dedication in finding the right home for their pets is admirable. This half marathon will not be easy for me as I'm not a 'natural' runner, but I am determined to go for it as I know that even a few pounds can help the charity treat an abandoned or abused animal." Also running for The Blue Cross was TV vet Joe Inglis, who spent the last few months training with his dog, Jack. He added: "As a vet it's wonderful to be involved in this half marathon as a way of supporting the vital work carried out by The Blue Cross for pets in need. It will also be a personal challenge for me on the day, as I've never run this distance before. I'm really looking forward to it!" View the runners and teams that supported us in the 2008 event.
