Family fun day for needy animals in Cambridge

26 August 2008

The Blue Cross pet charity is inviting animal lovers to an open day at its adoption centre in Cambridge from 11am to 3pm on Sunday 7 September. Proceeds from the day will go towards the care of the homeless and needy cats and kittens at the centre.

Budding David Baileys can enter the feline photo competition. Just send in a snap of your model moggy to enter one of the following categories: Funniest Feline; Most Handsome Tom; Prettiest Queen; Cutest Kitten; or Purrfect Pair. Entries should be sent by 5 September to: The Blue Cross, Garlic Row, Newmarket Road, Cambridge, CB5 8HW  or by email to cambridge@bluecross.org.uk.  Photos sent by post should be marked on the back with your name and address, your cat’s name and the category you wish to enter. Unfortunately, photos cannot be returned. The winning photos will be revealed at the open day.

Children can join in with fun games and activities while mums and dads browse the stalls, which will be selling cakes, bric-a-brac and much more. Refreshments will also be available all day, including delicious cream teas or fish and chips.

Alan Maskell Blue Cross centre manager at Cambridge said: “We’re really looking forward to the open day and seeing all the entries in the photo competition. There’ll be activities for all the family to enjoy and we’re hoping lots of people will come along to support their local Blue Cross”.

The Blue Cross does not receive any government funding so it relies on the support of the public to continue its vital work. The adoption centre at Cambridge has been inundated with unwanted kittens this summer who all need loving new homes. Any money raised on the day will go towards looking after them and the other cats at the centre – £13 will pay for a fleece-lined cat bed or £25 will vaccinate a kitten against life-threatening diseases.

For further information on the open day or the cats and kittens looking for homes, please call The Blue Cross in Cambridge on 01223 350153 or visit www.bluecross.org.uk.
