Fun day and dog show in aid of needy animals

4 August 2008

Animal lovers are invited to The Blue Cross fun day and dog show on Sunday 10th August from 11.00am at the Thirsk Farmers Auction Mart at Thirsk Rural Business Centre, Blakey Lane, Thirsk. All funds raised on the day will go towards the refurbishment of the charity’s animal adoption centre on Station Road, Topcliffe, which is due to start later this year.

If you think your pooch has what it takes to be a prize-winner, why not enter them in the dog show? With classes including waggiest tail and fastest doggy biscuit eater, everyone will be in with a chance. Judging starts at 12.30pm and there will be prizes and rosettes up to 6th place. There will even be mid-show entertainment, with a dazzling doggy-dancing display.

You’ll also be able see a display by Ben Potter and his majestic birds of prey, including eagles, vultures and owls. And if you’re not too scared to come out from behind the sofa, you can meet the look-alike Dr Who and several of his monster enemies! There will also be a range of stalls and refreshments available all day.

Wendy Ellison, Blue Cross centre manager in Thirsk said: “We’re really looking forward to the Fun Day and Dog show – it’s going to be an entertaining day out with something for all the family. We hope lots of people will come along to join in the fun and support their local Blue Cross.”

The Blue Cross is a registered charity and does not receive any government funding so it relies on the support of the public to continue its vital work. Money raised on the day will go towards the planned major rebuild of The Blue Cross animal adoption centre in Topcliffe, Thirsk. The project will enable the charity to take in even more needy pets and care for them in state-of-the-art facilities, before finding them loving new homes.

Hundreds of animals are successfully rehomed every year.
