30 October 2008 The Blue Cross, Britains pet charity, is calling on animal lovers of all ages to join the festivities at its Christmas carol concert on Thursday 11 December. Proceeds from the night will help the charity to support thousands of sick and homeless animals every year through its adoption centres and veterinary hospitals nationwide. Following the success of last years concert, the charity will again be hosting the event at St Peters Church in Eaton Square, Belgravia, SW1V. The congregation will be entertained by the well-renowned English Chamber Choir and treated to a selection of readings from special guests, including TV presenter Louise Minchin, actress Pam Ferris and musician Rick Wakeman. The festivities will start at 6pm with complimentary mince pies and wine before the concert commences at 7pm. Pam Ferris, who has acted in a variety of TV, film and theatre roles, including Ma Larkin in The Darling Buds of May, said: "It is my great pleasure to support The Blue Cross carol concert again this year and I'd urge people to come along. Last year I read a beautiful story about a stray dog who, through a series of mishaps, finds a home and love at Christmas - which seemed perfect for the occasion. The church is one of the most beautiful spaces I've ever been in, serene and bright, and the choir was sublime. The Blue Cross is a wonderful organisation that carries out successful work for animals year after year. Long may it continue." The Blue Cross has a long history in London and today runs three animal hospitals in Victoria, Hammersmith and Merton, which provide a valuable service for the pets of owners who cannot afford private vets fees. The charity also provides a community vet nurse in London who cares for animals in their own homes when owners are physically unable to get to one of its hospitals. The Blue Cross receives no government funding, so it relies on the generosity of the general public to continue its vital work.
