The Blue Cross adoption centre in Tiverton has introduced late opening times to cope with the increasing number of visitors looking for pets. The centre finds new homes for over 50 animals a month. Great care is taken to find the right match of pets and owners, with visitors encouraged to spend quality time getting to know their new companion, before they take the home. Staff also give prospective owners a detailed veterinary and behavioural history on each dog or cat, but this all takes time. Centre manager Damian Harrison said: Local support of our work is just fantastic, with so many people wanting to rehome animals in need. We hope opening late on Thursdays will help spread out the number of visitors, especially over weekends when we are most busy. It should also allow us to spend a few extra precious hours with the animals and give visitors even more attention. The centre will open late from 5 May, every Thursday, from 17.00 19.00. Anyone who would like to rehome a pet can call The Blue Cross adoption centre in Tiverton on 01884 855 291, or visit them at Chiltern Gate, Bickleigh, Tiverton. -ends- Notes to editors The Blue Cross is Britain's pet charity, providing practical support, information and advice for pet and horse owners.
