Hou-Danny the escaping hound

Danny, an 11-month-old collie cross, been giving staff the run around at The Blue Cross adoption centre in Lewknor, by working out how to escape from his kennel.

Danny, who staff now call Hou-Danny, has made a break for freedom on numerous occasions, by opening the dog flaps and waiting while his kennel mate follows him. Staff at the adoption centre have had to tie the flaps shut and wedge them closed. Once Danny has worked out how to do something, he never forgets, and even moving him to a different kennel has not stopped him. Danny has also scaled six-foot walls in a bid to find human company, which staff say is the motivation for his daring escapes.

Centre manager, Julie Stone said: “Danny is an incredible dog. He hates being left on his own and has found increasingly imaginative ways to break out and find friends.   We have foiled his plans a few times, but he keeps working out new ways to get out of his kennel is now taking his friend with him. Danny is very endearing and sweet natured. He is also good with other dogs. What he really needs is a new home so he can be with people all the time, which is what he craves.”

Danny came to The Blue Cross from Ireland, where he was a stray. Now he has a second chance at a life with a devoted owner and he will make a truly loyal pet.

Anyone who thinks they can rehome Danny should call 01844 355293, or visit the adoption centre on the London Road (A40), Lewknor, Oxon.

Notes to editors
