Four lucky animal lovers are starting the new year with a windfall thanks to local charity, The Blue Cross, who picked the winning tickets from its annual raffle last week. Lynn Rogers centre manager at the The Blue Cross animal adoption centre in Burford, picked four winning tickets out of more than 160,000 sold in aid of the animal welfare charity. Lending a paw was Lynns dog Ruby who featured on all the tickets and also Blue, a three-year-old greyhound. Blue is an ex-racer, that originally came from Ireland. He is being cared for by The Blue Cross until he finds a new home. Blue is great with other dogs and older children and would make a wonderful pet. Mr Mark Bedford, a fire fighter from Surrey will receive the £5,000 winning prize. In his job, Mr Bedford regularly rescues cats from trees and his own cat has been treated at The Blue Cross hospital at Merton. Blue Cross head of trading Jonathan Chambers, said: This has been one of The Blue Crosss most successful raffles, bringing in around £200,000. As a charity, The Blue Cross relies solely on donations to help sick and abandoned animals like Blue and whether supporters are purchasing raffle tickets or giving donations it all helps to fund The Blue Crosss work. Blue Cross deputy chief executive, Peter Chaddock was also present at the draw, which was held at The Blue Cross, Shilton Road, Burford on Wednesday January 19th. The four lucky supporters have won £5,000 (1st prize), £1,000 (2nd prize), £500 (3rd prize), and £300 (4th prize). Anyone who thinks that they can offer Blue the loving new home that he deserves, should call The Blue Cross adoption centre in Burford on 01993 822483.
