Adult riders for ponies needed

The Blue Cross animal welfare charity is looking for experienced small adult riders to take on two fun ponies currently in its care.

Frazer is a 13.2hh, ten-year-old, native type bay gelding. He would be ideal for someone who wants to enjoy a steady hack and the occasional sponsored ride. He will live out all year but needs companions of a similar age.

Fred is 14.2hh, seven-year-old, chestnut middle weight cob type gelding. He is a longer-term project for a competent and assertive rider and ultimately has the potential to become a versatile all-rounder. He would be happy to live in or out.

Amanda Winstone, Manager of The Blue Cross equine welfare centre in Burford, Oxfordshire said: “Sometimes it’s difficult to find the right homes for some of our small riding ponies. Despite their size some can occasionally prove to be too much for a child rider yet would make an ideal mounts for capable and assertive adults. If you are a lightweight adult who enjoys all the advantages of riding and keeping ponies we would love to hear from you.”

Working from two dedicated equine centres in Oxfordshire and Sussex, with a third to be opened in Staffordshire next year, The Blue Cross aims to rehome all horses and ponies in its care once they are physically and mentally fit enough. Every rehomed horse or pony is routinely visited twice a year with friendly centre staff and experienced field officers are on call to offer advice.

The Blue Cross is funded solely by public donations and relies on the support of equine lovers. Facilities and resources are not infinite, which means that needy horses can only be admitted to the centres once rehabilitated horses have been rehomed.

If you feel you can provide an experienced, long term home to a horse or pony in the charity’s care, contact Rebecca Wadham on 01993 822454, email equine@bluecross.org.uk or visit the website at www.bluecross.org.uk  Visitors to the site can also request a copy of the new Blue Cross equine welfare newsletter Equine Matters.
