To mark its first anniversary, the Blue Cross shop in Summertown is appealing to local residents to have a pre-Christmas clear out and donate any unwanted saleable items to help animals in the pet charitys care. The shop is one year old on 6 December and has enjoyed support from the local community from the day it opened. Goods such as books, household bric-a-brac and mens, womens and childrens clothes are needed to ensure the shop continues to offer shoppers quality bargain buys. Julie Rosekilly, retail manager at The Blue Cross, said: We hope that people will have a clear out to make room for their Christmas presents and in doing so, will find some real treasures that we can sell to help the needy animals in our care. The Blue Cross is one of Britains oldest animal welfare charities. It was founded in 1897 as a society for the encouragement of kindness to animals a sentiment that remains at the heart of The Blue Crosss work. Today The Blue Cross is a leader in the field of animal welfare and each year the charity rehomes thousands of animals and provides free veterinary care for pets in need. People who would like to donate items to The Blue Cross can visit the shop at 276 Banbury Road, or call 01865 516402. Notes to editors The Blue Cross is Britain's pet charity, providing practical support, information and advice for pet and horse owners. Through its network of animal adoption centres it rehomes thousands of animals each year. Its hospitals provide veterinary care for the pets of people who cannot afford private vets' fees.
