Footsy, a domestic short haired cat who tips the scales at a massive 8.95kg, is the largest cat ever cared for by The Blue Cross animal adoption centre in Felixstowe . Footsy was brought in for rehoming to the centre when her owner could no longer keep her. Staff were surprised by Footsy's size, and agreed to put her on a diet and help her find a loving new home. The health implications for obese cats include arthritis, heart problems, shortness of breath and lethargy. Overweight animals tend to find it hard to play or exercise, and as a result their quality of life diminishes. Centre manager Tom Crowley said: Footsy is a very large cat but we are hopeful that we can help her lose weight and so become healthier. If an animal is overfed they can become ill: it is actually kinder not to give them all the titbits they might like. When Footsy has reached a more ideal weight we will rehome her with a structured food programme. All animals leave The Blue Cross having been microchipped, vaccinated and neutered with six weeks' free pet insurance. A home visit will be carried out to check the suitability of the living environment for a dog. Anyone who would like to find out more or adopt an animals from the centre can visit The Blue Cross, 333 High Street, Walton, Felixstowe, Suffolk, IP11 9QL or call 01394 283254.
