The Blue Cross helps dream come true for Tracey

Tracey Langford from Bexhill-on-Sea will realise one of her lifelong dreams next week (11 – 15 June 2007) when she enrols for work experience at The Blue Cross animal adoption centre in Northiam.

Tracey has always wanted to work with animals but felt that she didn’t have the confidence to pursue her ambition. Now, after taking part in the ITV1 programme Kyle’s Academy - on air for two weeks from 18 June 2007 – she is ready to take the first steps towards a new career. The programme, hosted by Jeremy Kyle, gave five members of the public the opportunity to resolve the personal problems which were preventing them from getting on with their lives and realising their dreams.

During the filming, Tracey lived with the other participants and worked with Jeremy and a team of experts to help overcome her mood swings and a habit of comfort eating. At the end of the series, each participant was offered a treat to reward them for their hard work and encourage them to stick to their new lifestyle.

Tracey has a passion for animals, her pets include a snake, three cats and a dog. The Blue Cross offered to help Tracey fulfil her dream by organising work experience at the nearby small animal adoption and equine centre in Northiam after being contacted by the show.

Tracey said: “I am really excited about the chance to work at The Blue Cross centre in Northiam. I’ve always wanted to work with animals but was too afraid to change my career and re-train. I’m sure this opportunity will give me the confidence to pursue my lifelong ambition and I’m thrilled to be joining the Blue Cross team.”

Notes to editors

The Northiam animal adoption centre was opened in the late 1960s, and serves the communities of South East Sussex and parts of Kent. The site was converted from old farmhouses, and the reception is housed in a distinctive Oast house formerly used to dry hops. The centre can accommodate up to eleven dogs and 34 cats, as well as providing ample facilities for up to 25 horses and ponies on the equine part of the site. Hundreds of animals are successfully rehomed every year.

To contact the centre please call 01797 252243. Companion animal reception opening hours: Monday & Wednesday - Saturday: 9.30am - 12noon & 1pm - 3.30pm. Sundays: 10am - 12noon. Bank Holidays: 9.30am - 12noon & 1pm - 3pm.

The Blue Cross is Britain's pet charity, providing practical support, information and advice for pet and horse owners. Through its network of animal adoption centres it rehomes thousands of animals each year. Its hospitals provide veterinary care for the pets of people who cannot afford private vets' fees.
