Furry candidates campaign for your vote

PRESS RELEASE

27 April 2010

Furry candidates campaign for your vote

Are you suffering from election fatigue? Are Cameron, Clegg and Brown beginning to blend into one? Then perhaps Molly, Monty and Bernie can offer you a fresh new perspective, in an election with a difference at The Blue Cross animal adoption centre in Burford. The cat, dog and rabbit candidates are vying for your support to answer the age-old question – which pet rules the roost?

The leaders of the Dog, Cat and Small Animal parties are hot on the election trail, each with their own manifesto. Molly the dog promises daily walks and comfy beds for her supporters, while fish and chicken meals are high on the agenda for Monty the cat. Bernie the rabbit is demanding fresh fruit and vegetables and toys to play with for all small animals.

Alyson Jones, deputy centre manager for The Blue Cross at Burford said: “The election campaign is really hotting up here at the centre and polls at the moment are showing that it’s going to be a close call. Hopefully we won’t end up with a hung Parliament! We’d love lots of people to come along to use their vote and meet some of the animals here who would definitely vote for loving new homes for all.”

Ballot forms are available at The Blue Cross centre on Shilton Road or at Jackson’s Veterinary Clinic in Carterton, where voters can make their choice in return for a small donation. Voting will close on the day of the general election, 6 May, with the winning party announced on 7 May. Hopefully all three candidates will be lucky enough to find permanent new homes too. For more information about the election or to see the animals at the centre currently looking for homes, visit:  www.bluecross.org.uk

The Blue Cross receives no government funding, so relies on the generous support of the public to continue its work caring for animals like Molly, Monty and Bernie.
