Summer fun day for animals in need

PRESS RELEASE

27 May 2010

Summer fun day for animals in need

Animal lovers are invited to picturesque Shobrooke Park in Crediton on Sunday 6 June to enjoy an action-packed Dog Show and Fun Day from 11.00am to 3.00pm. The event, organised by The Blue Cross adoption centre in Tiverton, will raise money for sick and homeless animals cared for by the charity. Entry is 50p per adult and free for children and dogs.

Potential prize-winning pooches are invited to try their luck in the dog show. The ten classes to compete in include Best Rescue Dog, Waggiest Tail, Best Veteran and Fastest Bonio Eater… and who knows, your pet may even be in with a chance of winning the coveted Best in Show prize! £1 entry per dog per class.

There will also be plenty of other activities to keep dogs and their owners busy all day. Enjoy an astonishing agility demonstration and then let your four-legged friend have a go. There are lots more doggie games too - a scurry run, a doggie tombola and musical sits to name just a few. Kiddies’ corner will offer plenty of fun and games to keep the children entertained and kids and adults alike can try their luck at the welly wanging. There will also be a live band, a range of delicious hot and cold refreshments, stalls selling plants, pet portraits, homemade cakes and much, much more.

Damian Harrison, centre manager for The Blue Cross at Tiverton said: “The summer Dog Show and Fun Day is our main event of the year. It’s always a fantastic family day out and the dog show is a real highlight. We’d love as many people as possible to come along and support The Blue Cross and help us raise lots of money for the needy cats and dogs at the centre.”

The Blue Cross receives no government funding, so relies on the generous support of the public to continue its vital work. Money raised at this event will go towards the care of animals like Flynn, a six-year-old lurcher who was brought to The Blue Cross as a stray in a sorry state. Flynn has been at the centre since January and really deserves a loving new home. He is a friendly affectionate boy, who loves long walks and curling up for a cuddle on the sofa. Ideally, he’d like a home with a secure garden where he can be the only dog and isn’t left on his own for more than four hours a day. If you think Flynn could be the perfect pet for you, contact The Blue Cross in Tiverton on 01884 855291.
