The Blue Crosss Grimsby Animal Hospital Appeal has received a generous pledge of £5,000 from The Canine Supporters Charity. The cheque, received by the appeal director Tony Samuel (second from left) at the Windsor Dog Show, will pay for the modern dispensary store at the Blue Crosss new hospital, which opened for business on Wednesday 13 July on Nelson Street, Grimsby. With two modern operating theatres, four examination clinics and a new laboratory, the hospital will continue to provide the high standard of care that The Blue Cross has given pets in Grimsby since 1959. Tony Samuel said: We are delighted to accept this generous gift from The Canine Supporters Charity which will help The Blue Cross fulfil the aims of both our charities namely to promote the welfare of dogs, and responsible pet ownership. Local people have helped raise thousands for the new state-of-the-art hospital. The hospital at the old site was becoming increasingly cramped and the staff were struggling to provide treatment there. Regional fundraiser, Julie Donn said: This pledge will help ensure that local pets in the area will always have access to the highest standards of care. We still need more funds, so any further donations are extremely welcome. The Canine Supporters Charity was founded in 1977, and aims to raise funds for the promotion, study and welfare of dogs and to encourage academic research. They also strive to bring people and their dogs together for the good of dogs. Actor and former Blue Peter presenter, Peter Purves, is the charity president.
