In light of the floods currently affecting parts of the country, The Blue Cross has the following advice and leaflet for pet owners affected by flooding. During a flood warning: 1. Bring all animals inside, if possible take them upstairs 2. Move food, bedding and fresh water to somewhere safe and dry 3. Keep your portable pet carriers to hand in case you need to evacuate your home 4. Check if local authority human flood shelters will allow animals 5. Keep your pet's familiar toys dry; animals under stress will welcome something that smells of home 6. Make sure your cats and dogs have proper identification 7. Make sure food and medicines are well stocked 8. Put documents like vaccination records, vet details, microchip number in a sealed bag. Include a photograph in case your animal gets lost 9. Move horses to high ground and keep tack and rugs off the floor 10. Stay updated and listen for warnings on local TV and radio or call Floodline on 0845 988 1188 for the latest news in your area.
