Building for a Better Future at Southampton

Dudley

Dudley a pug, Lhasa-apso cross came into The Blue Cross when he was only 15 months old. Having already been in several homes he was desperate to find a permanent home.  After a long six months in our care Dudley found a loving new home. His new owner Lara told us:

“I adopted Dudley and soon realised he enjoyed learning new things. Dudley excelled in obedience, even won a ‘Pets at Home Cleverest Dog’ competition. Despite only having one eye, Dudley has gone on to compete in agility, winning his first competition. Best of all, Dudley is a true companion accompanying me to work and sitting on my desk! “

.

There has been a Blue Cross adoption centre in Southampton since 1911, which finds caring new homes for over 650 unwanted cats and dogs each year.

However, vital improvements at the centre are now urgently needed if we are to keep up with current welfare standards, and provide the highest level of care possible for the animals so desperately in need of our help.

We are also planning to build an on-site veterinary welfare clinic to extend the reach of our veterinary services by providing treatment for the pets of the many people in the area who are unable to afford private veterinary fees.

The project cost will be £1.3 million. Can you help us help us meet the urgent need for increased rehoming and veterinary services?

The project will:

• Provide a new welfare veterinary clinic service for disadvantaged people and their pets in the Southampton area and treat animals at the centre
• Bring facilities in line with current animal welfare standards
• Enable The Blue Cross to rehome more pets
• Provide better facilities for the dogs and cats at the adoption centre, so they are more comfortable and less stressed
• Enable staff to dedicate more time to training and socialising the animals as well as finding them new homes
• Make more effective use of the space available at the site
