When it's cold outside...

The recent heavy snowfall and chilly winter blast has meant that many animals at The Blue Cross are enjoying a frolic in the snow. We’re ensuring that all our animals are kept warm, comfortable and well fed, and we’re also making sure that they get the chance to get out in the snow and explore.

Here are some of the pictures that we’ve taken at Blue Cross centres across the country this winter. If you’ve got some pictures of your pets in the snow, or even some comical stories that you’d like to share with us, please email them to editor@bluecross.org.uk.

While most animals adapt to the cold quite well, it is important to remember that older pets, very young pets and small animals may be more vulnerable. Outdoor pets like rabbits and guinea pigs will need extra bedding, or should be brought indoors. Many horses should have extra blankets, food and water on supply, and cats and dogs shouldn’t be shut outside for long periods. For fact sheets and advice on pet care in the cold, visit www.allaboutpets.org.uk.
