Lucky escape

A daring jack russell terrier in South London last week was hit by a passing lorry. Although he had been hit by the vehicle, the dog dragged himself towards the side of the road and was then hit by a car. The young Jack Russell terrier was rushed to the charity's animal hospital in Victoria by a kind passer-by who witnessed the little dog in the shocking accident.

Caroline Powley, Vet nurse manager at The Blue Cross animal hospital in Victoria said: "It is a miracle this poor dog did not receive more injuries during his ordeal. He has been on morphine treatment to help him with the pain and surgery later today should help him on the way to recovery. Vet nurses are taking extra special care of this lovely little chap who they have nicknamed 'Lucky'."

The Blue Cross appeals to the owners of the dog to come forward and advises other dog owners to make sure their dog has a microchip fitted so that they can be reunited if they become lost.

Little Lucky is recovering in Burford where he is exercising and building up his muscles and strength. If Lucky’s owners do not come forward the Blue Cross will rehome Lucky.

If you have more information about 'Lucky' please contact The Blue Cross on 020 7932 2370.
