A rescue dog who weighed a whopping 55kg has fought the flab after a strict fitness routine. Rottweiler Honey came to our Felixstowe adoption centre because of a relationship split. At 55kg she was very overweight and was immediately put on a low protein diet, being fed Hills Prescription R/D, to help shift the pounds. Honey was then put on to a light diet to bring her down to an ideal weight and given low fat treats by staff during training. Centre manager Andy Gillon says: Her exercise was restricted at first in order to build her up and make sure she wasnt pushed too hard or over-exerted. Small, regular walks became larger until she was able to be taken out for around an hour with our volunteer dog walkers. Honey gradually lost around 1-2kg a week until she had shed more than 12kg. Andy adds: She has now been rehomed to a great family that will be keeping up with her regular exercise. Being overweight can be dangerous for your pet and, in some cases, even fatal.
