Tabby cat Spike is feeling purrfect after finding a loving new home.

The four-year-old caught the eye of Charlotte Manvill when she visited the Blue Cross adoption centre in Tiverton.

Charlotte says: “We had been talking about adopting for ages but had never done anything about it. Finally we plucked up the courage to ask our landlord and went to adopt from the centre.

“I had seen Spike on the website and thought he was very cute but when we went and registered with the centre we said we wanted a short-haired cat which was female and about a year old.

“But when we went in Spike was looking up at us and meowing loudly.

“After a couple of minutes we knew he was the one. Funnily enough a friend had said that you need to let the cat choose you and he did.”

After getting to know Spike, Charlotte and her partner decided to adopt him.

She says: “Two weeks later, we went to collect him from the centre and brought him home. He spent a couple of days hiding in the spare room but soon came out of himself and started playing again.”

Spike had some behavioural issues which had been explained to Charlotte before she adopted him but with some love, attention and the help of our centre staff, this soon started to disappear and Spike became more and more affectionate.

Charlotte adds: “Now he is outside playing all day long and even walks me to the bus stop every morning disappearing the moment the bus arrives! He recognises the sound of the car and comes to greet us every evening before coming in for tea and cuddles and playtime.

“We love him to bits and can’t imagine ourselves without him.”
