Blue Cross warning after three cats fall from buildings

The Blue Cross is warning cat owners about the dangers of open windows after treating three injured cats that fell in just one week.

With the hot weather, it’s tempting to open all the windows wide but this could be fatal for curious cats.

This week alone our animal hospital in Victoria, London, treated three cats who fell from windows or balconies either five or six storeys high.

One of them fractured a foreleg which had to be plated and lost a lot of blood.  Another one dislocated its left hip and fractured its femur and the third cat’s injuries are still being assessed.

If you have cats and want to have your windows open, invest in a mesh covering which will prevent them falling out.

You can also make sure the window is open a tiny bit on a restrictor so the cat can’t push it open but remember that cats can fit through very small gaps.
