A kitten from Cumbria is making a miraculous recovery after being hit and dragged by a car.

The homeless pet, Amber, was discovered by an Ulverston resident while she was attempting to drink from a pond.

Susan Worthington realised that the kitten had sustained life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car.

The pet was treated at South Lakes Veterinary Centre with funding from Furness Animal Welfare for a fractured jaw, leg wounds and an infection.

Mhairi Cameron, from the medical centre, revealed the extent of Amber's injuries.

"The tiny kitten had a nasty fracture of her jaw which had caused infection to spread in her mouth and nose making it impossible for her to eat or drink," she told the North-West Evening Mail.

"We admitted her to the surgery for emergency treatment, though we feared the worst. But after intravenous fluids, strong pain relief and antibiotics, she was considerably brighter."

Elsewhere, a pet cat from Austria is recovering after becoming trapped beneath a car's bonnet as it travelled for 300 miles.
