The majority of dogs rescued from a Northamptonshire kennels are recovering well.

Animal welfare experts removed 98 St Bernard dogs from Wardana Kennels in Brigstock recently following calls from a distressed animal owner.

David Nolan decided to visit the kennels when he became concerned about his pet after he was unable to contact the owners of the premises.

Once Mr Nolan had gained access to the property he was shocked to discover that many of the 98 pets did not have water and were covered in their own mess.

Two of the dogs later died but animal rescuers have revealed that the rest are on the mend.

"The dogs concerned are recovering and are all being well looked-after," an animal rescuer told the Evening Telegraph.

Police recently announced that two people have been arrested in connection with the discovered dogs.

Figures published by Dog Magazine reveal that there are 100,000 dogs in the UK who are currently awaiting new homes while living in shelters.
