Pooches who are staying in kennels over the Christmas period may appreciate a "care package", according to industry experts.
Pet health commentator Lisa Chelenza recently wrote in News 10 Now how dogs like to see and smell familiar objects when they are in strange surroundings.
The expert advised pet lovers to put together a collection of items that dogs will recognise when they are in kennels, as this can help them to settle in more quickly.
"Preparing a comfort care package when you're gone is a good way to keep your pet comfortable," wrote Ms Chelenza.
Owners may like to include an article of clothing they have worn, which can relax stressed canines due to its scent.
Familiar toys and bedding ought to accompany dogs staying in temporary accommodation, in addition to their usual food to avoid stomach upsets.
Medication is also an important part of the package, so pets remain healthy while their owners are away.
Meanwhile, Pfizer Animal Health recently urged pet lovers intending to take their dogs with them on trips to keep an eye on pooches, who may become tired as a result of the festivities.
