Petplan Charitable Trust

We are very grateful to The Petplan Charitable Trust for supporting the redevelopment of the Burford Equine Centre. Their generous donation of £10,000 helped to fund the new Isolation Stable Block completed in Spring 2007.

The new light, airy and efficient stable block provides housing for an additional seven horses and serves as a completely separate quarantine area for horses and ponies entering the centre.

During the first few weeks at the centre, horses coming into The Blue Cross are kept in the Isolation Stables to enable a thorough health check to take place whilst also assessing their behaviour. Once this isolation period is complete and they are given the 'all clear', they are gradually introduced into a suitable herd.

Coming into an unfamiliar stable yard can be a traumatic experience for equines and so it is of paramount importance that we provide the right environment to make their road to rehabilitation as stress-free as possible.

With the new facilities at Burford, the centre can now care for even more needy horses and ponies, and rehabilitate more than twice the number of equines.
