Rita O'Sullivan - hospital volunteer

After being diagnosed with breast cancer, the aggressive treatment and battle to fight the disease left Rita feeling very low.

She says: “After the treatment I found there wasn’t much I could do. I needed something to do and a place where I was useful to somebody.”

Rita found out about opportunities at our Grimsby animal hospital when she got a newsletter from a volunteering website.

She now helps in the packing department and says: “It has given me a purpose. I feel useful here and it’s been excellent for me.

“I picked the tasks up very quickly and it’s helped me tremendously.

“You have to have a new role for yourself in life after something like that and volunteering here has given me that role.”
