The rise in the number of Blue Cross charity shops has increased the need for volunteers to assist in helping them run effectively. Bob Frost volunteers at The Blue Cross shop in Dursley and says the rewards are fantastic: Volunteering here keeps me involved in the local community. I was initially here on a work placement for 13 weeks, but six months later, Im still very much involved. Its ironic, as I had never considered volunteering in the past. Bobs DIY skills are put to good use at the shop. He helps with putting up shelves and even created a small office area for staff. Bob also collects donations from those unable to travel, and carries out tasks at the shop once a week. I love spending my time helping The Blue Cross. The staff have been so helpful, and really made me feel involved, not just in the local area, but in the work of the charity towards animal welfare. I enjoy giving something back. A lot of volunteers live locally to the places that they work, and it helps them feel part of a community, which is important. Trevor Philp is another Dursley shop volunteer and shares Bobs sentiments: I love the atmosphere here and really believe Im making a difference, he says.
