Tammy

Nervous cat Tammy has come out of her shell after finding the perfect home.

Blue Cross rescue cat Tammy is triumphing in her adopted home.

The black and white feline was picked by David Graebe when he came to our Northiam adoption centre.

Mr Graebe was used to having two cats in the house so when one sadly passed away, he wanted a companion for his other cat Felix.

He says: “Tammy was the picture of health but terrified of everything. She was only two and a half and had already been in at least two households.”

When they arrived home, Mr Graebe let Tammy out in just one room at first so she was not overwhelmed by her new surroundings.

She immediately disappeared behind the curtain. Mr Graebe says: “The next day I went up, pulled the curtain aside and sat on the floor talking to her.

“I could see it in her eyes – ‘shall I? Shan’t I?’ I held out my hand and suddenly she rushed into my arms and was all over me, obviously desperate for affection.”

It took several months before Tammy began to forget her past but she hasn’t looked back since.

Mr Graebe says: “She taught herself the scratching post and knew all about the cat flap from watching Felix and, just as I was beginning to wonder when and how I could get her to go outdoors, she came in soaking wet – she’d made it!

“She’s gorgeous and has behaved impeccably. She and Felix get on like a house on fire.

“This household is now complete and happy again, thanks to The Blue Cross.”
