Angela Rain - education volunteer

angela_rain200

Angela became an education volunteer for us three years ago when she saw a leaflet in her local veterinary practice and thought her dog Jess would be perfect for the job.

She gives talks at schools and Cubs and Brownies groups and says: “Jess ends up surrounded by kids and she just loves it.

“She will slide towards them on her belly and she loves having her tummy rubbed.

“Some of the children are very nervous and won’t approach her at first but when they see all their friends stroking her they finally come over. I love that part of it the most.

“If I can get the message of responsible pet ownership home to the children and it means just one pet isn’t neglected then it’s been worth it.”

Angela now also visits elderly residential homes and day centres with German shepherd cross Rottweiler Jess. She says: “I let Jess off the lead and she goes round one by one saying hello to everyone. She never misses anyone out – she’s amazing.”

Here’s just some of the high praise Angela has received from one of her visits: “Angela - I needed to write and thank you so, so much for your talk the other week.

“The clients you spoke with were amongst the most advanced stages of dementia and had an excellent time.

“The lady who spoke of her husband hardly ever says anything. But she talked about your dog all the following day and continued to speak of her husband.”
