Abandoned hamster Hank lucky to be alive

Gorgeous hamster Hank is lucky to be alive after his owners left him to fend for himself.

Hank’s owners moved out of their home and left him behind.

Jo Dempsey, an Animal Welfare Assistant at our Torbay rehoming centre, said: “The tenants moved out and left Hank running free. It wasn’t until the landlords moved some furniture and saw him run across the floor that they realised he had been left behind.”

Poor Hank had been left all alone for days without being given any food or water.

Jo added: “It took the landlord a few days to catch him, and they think there may be another hamster still wandering around the property too, so they have set up a humane trap and will call on us for help if they find another one.”

We think Hank is an older chap because he is quite slow, but he has obviously been well cared for and must have been loved as he is very happy to be handled.

We’ve found him a new home with a loving new owner who will care for him for the rest of his days.
