Cambridge centre back on its paws after flooding

Despite being devastated by flash flooding last week, our Blue Cross rehoming centre in Cambridge is now back on its paws thanks to the generosity and kindness of supporters.

Storms brought dirty water into the cat pens and ruined nearly all their scratching posts, toys and bedding. Most of them had to be thrown away, leaving our cats without the vital enrichment and mental stimulation they need during their stay at the centre. Thankfully our cats and kittens stayed safe and weren't too traumatised by the ordeal.

A social media appeal for donations and gifts was a roaring success. A campaign on JustGiving has raised nearly £11,000 and hundreds of toys, scratching posts, treats and other goods have been donated to the centre.

The Cambridge team has been overwhelmed by the response: "We'd like to thank everyone for the generous gifts and kind thoughts at our time of need - it's been amazing. We raised a lot of money and received wonderful presents from people all over the world. The cats are loving their new toys!"

Local businesses and pet supply companies also came to the rescue. Pets at Home, Pets Corner and petplanet.co.uk donated pellet-loads of goods and local media outlets BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, Cambridge News and Heart Cambridgeshire all ran appeals.

With their support, and the incredible response to the online appeal, the centre is now back to normal and busy rehoming needy cats in the Cambridge area.

If you’d like to help the abandoned and unwanted cats and kittens at Cambridge, please visit the centre's Amazon wish list or donate via JustGiving.
