Meet our Trustees: Stuart Carmichael

Why did you choose to volunteer for Blue Cross?

I was looking for a new animal charity to help after my long term involvement with another animal charity came to an end.  When I was asked to consider Blue Cross I was delighted to have the opportunity to join an organisation for which I had a great deal of respect gained through contact at the operational level as well as the Mission.

For how long have you been a trustee?

6 months

What are your duties as a trustee?

I am settling in as a relative newcomer but I sit on the Board at quarterly meetings in addition to the SEDCO and Audit committees.

What is your professional background?

I am a veterinary surgeon, qualifying from Glasgow in 1978.  I have spent most of my career working with dogs and cats and am a Diplomate Orthopaedic Surgeon and was a recognised Specialist in this area for over 30 years.  I have worked both in University Hospitals at University of Glasgow, Royal Veterinary College and University of Surrey and in private referral practices in London, Bristol and Glasgow.  I am currently running my own businesses as a private consultant.

What do you enjoy most about being a trustee?

I am grateful to have the opportunity to make a difference to animals who need help and support.  Blue Cross is a wonderful organisation with fantastic staff who really do make a difference. I am just happy to be part of the whole effort

Tell us about your own pets

We have a very loveable but mad Flat Coat Retriever called Rowan who is 8 years old but thinks that she is 8 months old.   WE are also currently looking for a new cat or cats after our old cat passed away last year.
