Missing cat reunited with owner after a year

A cat who went missing over a year ago has been reunited with his owner thanks to Blue Cross.

When a stray black and white moggy was brought into our Blue Cross Torbay in Devon, staff feared that – as with most of the strays they take in - they would never find his owners because he was not microchipped.

Owner Rebecca Code contacted us after her missing cat Denzil’s photo was posted on our Torbay Blue Cross rehoming centre Facebook page and other local websites.

Denzil had distinctive markings, and our team was able to confirm Denzil was indeed Rebecca’s cat after seeing photos, and the pair was happily reunited.

Denzil was last seen by his owners when he went missing while they were moving house last year.

Rebecca said: “We’re really happy to have Denzil back. He did seem to recognise us - he has settled back in amazingly quickly and is getting on fine with our other cat and dog, who he used to live with before he went missing.”

Laura Boyle, Rehoming Centre Manager at Torbay Blue Cross, said: “Sadly, so many of the stray cats we take in are probably much loved pets who are being missed. But without a microchip it’s often impossible to find their owners.

“We were so lucky with Denzil that his owners saw the online posts about him, but a microchip is a much more reliable way of making sure your pet can be easily returned to you should they get lost.”

When you get your pet microchipped, your details will be registered on a database. If any of your details should change, a quick phone call (and sometimes a small fee) to your microchip database company is all it takes to give you the peace of mind of knowing you can be easily contacted if your pet should go missing.

You can get your cat, dog or rabbit microchipped for free at Blue Cross centres. Find your nearest one now and get in touch to find out more.
