‘Nearly half of Brits’ planning to watch Royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Nearly half of the country is gearing up to watch Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the knot on May 19, according to a survey for national pet charity Blue Cross.

A poll of 1,000 adults for the charity found 45% of people are planning to travel to Windsor or watch the wedding on TV, with 15% still deciding how they will celebrate the royal nuptials.

Tea party

Blue Cross is calling on people to hold a tea party fundraiser with friends and family to mark the occasion and at the same time raise money for needy pets.

The charity is celebrating its Paws for Tea campaign throughout May, which calls on people to host a tea party with family and friends to raise vital funds for the dogs, cats, horses and small animals helped at Blue Cross rehoming centres and animal hospitals across the country.

Most people who said they would be watching the event (81%) said they will be watching at home, with nearly ten per cent planning to watch the event at a friend’s house and just two per cent saying they were planning to travel to watch the event in Windsor.

Most of those who said they were planning to watch the wedding said they would be watching with family and friends.

The survey also found 35% of the 1,000 adults surveyed had watched the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29 2011.

Heather Collin, Blue Cross Community and Events Regional Manager, said: “Afternoon tea has to be one of Britain’s best known traditions along with our Royal family.

“We’d love people to celebrate the Royal wedding with a tea party with friends and family while raising money for Blue Cross pets.

“Being a dog lover, we’re sure Meghan would approve of people helping to raise vital funds to help sick, injured and homeless animals at our centres and hospitals across the country.”
