Journalist’s lasting legacy will give pets a happier future

Journalist John Chittock has left a generous legacy of £10,000 to Blue Cross so we can help abandoned and unwanted pets have a happy future.

John, who founded Screen Digest, a global information publishing business, was well known in the media world and was appointed OBE in 1982.

He sadly died in October 2011 at the age of 83 and, as animal lovers, he and his first wife, Joy, wanted to leave a gift which would help needy pets have a better life.

John and Joy were married for over 50 years and, although they never had children, they had a dog who they adored.

After Joy’s death in 2001, John later remarried and left his second wife a lifetime interest in his estate. After that, all the joint bequests he made with Joy will be paid.  These are known as deferred legacies, which means that the gift to Blue Cross will be paid when John’s second wife passes away.

This type of legacy shows you can make sure your loved ones are provided for as well as helping your favourite causes in future years.

This is just one of several different ways that people choose to leave a legacy to Blue Cross so that we can care for sick, injured and homeless pets. More than half our income comes from legacies and we remain grateful for the generosity of our supporters like John, who help us be there for pets.
