Derby pet care clinic

Location Details

Blue Cross Derby pet care clinic is based at Scarsdale Vets in Shelton Lock, Derby and provides subsidised veterinary treatment for pets whose owners couldn’t otherwise afford it.

We provide the same, high quality care your pet would receive at a Blue Cross animal hospital – only at your local vet.

Please note that the clinic has a monthly limit on registration numbers and will close to new registrations once that monthly limit has been reached. Registrations are open between 9.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

If the clinic does not appear in the dropdown, they are now full for this month and are not accepting registrations. Please check back for any updates.

Is my pet eligible for treatment?

Low cost, Blue Cross vet care is for pets, and pet owners, who are most in need. So to be eligible, you’ll need to receive one of the following means-tested benefits:

  • pension credit
  • housing benefit
  • income support
  • working tax credit or child tax credit
  • council tax reduction (not 25 per cent single person discount)
  • income-based jobseeker’s allowance
  • income based employment and support allowance
  • universal credit

You’ll also need to register with the clinic and live within one of the following postcodes:

DE1, DE21, DE22, DE23, DE24, DE72 and DE73

How many pets can I register?

You can register up to two pets, including cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils and small birds such as budgies. Unfortunately, you can’t register more than two even if you have more pets. That’s because we want to help as many people and their pets as we can.

How much will it cost?

When you register, you’ll pay an annual registration fee of £55 for each pet. This will cover the cost of annual vaccinations*, a health check, microchipping and any treatment needed if your pet becomes sick or injured. There are also reduced-cost preventative treatments and affordable charges for out-of-hours services, so your pet always has access to the help it needs.

Because we’re a charity, and we rely on the generosity of supporters to keep going, we ask that you make a contribution towards your pet’s care every time you visit the clinic.

*Primary and booster vaccinations only, kennel cough is not included.
